Is the Higgs particle really found?
Rumors of a Higgs particle is found: that we’ve heard it before . And then there was nothing to beat. How reliable are the latest rumors?
Speculations
Well, the rumors themselves are perhaps not very impressive, but together with speculation still pretty convincing. And in theory, the chance that the scientists have now found Higgs bigger than last time.Simply because they have had more time to embed the particle.
Quest
For decades, is looking to the particle. And in recent years there has been some progress. Slowly but surely closing the investigators particle. Example by increasing number of locations where this particle could hold on to exclude . That is, if the particle exists.
Higgs on
Just a word on the Higgs particle that physicists also very theatrically called the ‘Holy Grail’. Over the years, physicists have built models that explain various phenomena. In this model, the Higgs particle has been given a place. The particle is essential for the validity of the model: namely, it explains why all particles have mass. In theory, the existence of the particle has been proven many times, but in practice, researchers have never seen. Finding Higgs is therefore crucial, because it once and for all clear as to whether the model of the scientists is correct. And if no Higgs is found, the entire model on the shovel.
Rumor
Now back to the rumors: where are they based? Rumor has it that the researchers really something important to announce have. The results are indeed presented by leading scientists. And that is remarkable, because they can usually not involved. Now that argument in itself may not be as strong. But add to it that scientists in recent months closer to Higgs and Higgs came close even though we had already seen . There’s more, even within the CERN itself is buzzing with rumors about a possible discovery. That the BBC reports on the authority of Professor John Ellis. He worked at CERN, and there is still a visiting professor. “I think we have a first glimpse (of Higgs, ed) to absorb,” he says the BBC.
And then of course the most important question: Are the rumors true? It may be that the researchers something important on the track, but the chances of them the discovery of a Higgs particle present is extremely small. That’s because a lot more research to find more evidence and asks the researchers to collect the underlying time. But let’s face it: even Higgs is not found. A glimpse of the Higgs would already be world news. We will see: Tuesday, December 13, the researchers presented their results.
